shame
Following in the footsteps of unflinching musicians and writers such as Swell Maps, Television Personalities and Irvine Welsh, South London’s bracing post-punk outfit shame features vocalist Charlie Steen, guitarists Sean Coyle-Smith and Eddie Green, bassist Josh Finerty, and drummer Charlie Forbes. The quintet met in school and formed shame in 2014 while still in their teens. A family connection led them to practice at the Queen’s Head, a gritty Brixton pub that was also home to Fat White Family.

With consistently raucous energy and a frontman who knew how to turn the quietest of rooms into stage diving pits of glory, word spread that shame were the most exciting live band the UK had to offer. The band signed to Dead Oceans in 2017 and quickly recorded their debut at Rockfield, the same studio as Oasis’ Definitely Maybe. The result was Songs of Praise, which on the day of release in early 2018 saw the band on The Guardian’s front page lauded as the leaders of a new wave of guitar music. For the next year the band toured the world over, pushing themselves harder with each show, leaving every audience stunned and enamoured by the power of shame.

Returning with their first new music since Songs of Praise, the James Ford produced "Alphabet" is a burst of energy that blazes bright and fast. It’s a restless and relentless track that feels familiar yet bigger and bolder than anything the band have done before, signalling the arrival of a new era of shame.
