15 MAY, 1964 - St Albans natives, The Zombies, take home £250 after winning the "Herts Beat" competition at Watford Town Hall. This year at their newly annual Begin Here Festival, The Zombies are offering one lucky winner £1000. “We hope that with this prize money, you can make a record just as good as we did”
Finalists:
KYLE KIRCH
I'm a small town kid who grew up a mere 5257 miles from Hertfordshire. I picked up the guitar at 15, started playing regular gigs at 16, and the rest is history. I've only recently begun my recording journey and hope to have my album out this winter/spring.
OWES
OWES are an alternative outfit from Hemel Hempstead, combining influences from throughout the decades spanning a multitude of genres. The ‘FRIENDS IN DARK PLACES’ EP, their debut release, was put out in July 2023, with the explosive single “money’s worth” heading the campaign.
After a prolonged period of absence, a return in the final quarter of 2024 will see OWES finally take to the stage again, with new single “grad stuff” being the first in a flurry of singles expected across the next year.
JOHN LION
JOHN LION is a trio band. Their music blends the timeless vibes of the 60's with the raw, alternative energy of the 90's and they are on a sonic journey to revive the spirit of these eras and infuse it with a modern twist. Having stormed through London's iconic music venues (Spice of Life, Fiddler's Elbow..) over the last months, including a sold-out show in Camden, we've released five singles that collectively boast over 150k streams. Our tracks have not only hit the airwaves but have also been featured on blogs. Currently, we're in the studio crafting our debut EP, eagerly anticipating the next chapter in our musical journey.
